Visit the Hayward Animal Shelter for these December events
The Stack | December 2025

The Hayward Animal Shelter is hosting several events throughout the month of December and offering reduced adoptions through the Bissell Foundation’s Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope campaign until Dec. 12. During the campaign, almost all pet adoption fees are reduced to $70, plus a $15 microchip fee and a $17 Hayward dog licensing fee for City residents.
On Dec. 13, the shelter will host its annual Home for the Holidays event, where Hayward pets can take photos with “Santa Paws” from noon to 3 p.m., and almost all pet adoption fees will be waived (plus the microchip and/or licensing fees) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., thanks to contributions from SantaCon Hayward. The event will also have a raffle and bake sale, with all donations directly benefiting the Hayward Animal Shelter.
And until Dec. 23, anyone can participate in the Presents for Paws initiative and leave gifts for pets under the holiday tree at the shelter. On Dec. 25, the shelter will release a video of the animals receiving their gifts from generous community members.
