Hayward Zucchini Festival coming to Southland Mall
The zucchini—a vegetable or fruit? For the answer, and to learn and experience so much more, don’t miss the 36th annual Hayward Zucchini Festival, coming to a new location this weekend, Aug. 18 and 19, at Southland Mall.
There will be local bands, playing from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., food and drink, zucchini-inspired and otherwise, arts and crafts and a Kids’ Town with fun, cool prizes, face painting and rides. And, there will be a zucchini-growing contest, too.
Prizes will be awarded in six categories—heaviest, most unusual shape and best color variation among pure zucchinis and, separately, among hybrid versions of the vegetable, er, fruit. The deadline for entry in zucchini-growing contest is 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19.
The general admission ticket price is $10, and $5 for seniors, youth ages five to 12 and disabled people. More steeply discounted tickets can be purchased in advance in combination of twos and threes at The Cobblers, 22443 Foothill Blvd. VIP tickets that admit a carload of people and include parking are $30 for a two-day pass and $20 for a single day.
Revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships benefits Hayward-area charities. For more information—and to get a flavor of the Hayward Zucchini Festival—checkout the festival website and Facebook page, and follow it on website and Instagram.
