During March, the Hayward Fire Department hosted an Open Water Rescuer class. Four instructors, all from Hayward Fire, instructed 16 students from the following agencies: Alameda County Fire Department, Contra Costa Fire Department, Albany Fire Department, Oakland Fire Department, and East Bay Regional Parks. Each day of the three-day training session was conducted in a different environment and included the use of a pool, a portion of the Bay near Eden Landing Shores, and the San Leandro marina, with the last segment of training in the marina involving the use of rescue boats from nearby agencies. The class was a huge success and resulted in the addition of 16 State Certified Rescue Swimmers to our region. The Hayward Fire Department would like to extend sincere thanks to the following agencies for their assistance in this successful effort: Chabot College, Department of Fish and Wildlife, East Bay Regional Parks, and the following fire departments: Alameda County Fire, South San Francisco, and Oakland.
