Thank you Hayward: Free pancakes to celebrate firehouse upgrades
The Hayward Fire Department is holding a special free pancake breakfast to celebrate and say thank you to the Hayward community for the completion of earthquake retrofit work and other improvements at all City fire stations.
The Firehouse Flapjacks and Open House event will take place rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Fire Station 2 located at 360 West Harder Road.
In addition to enjoying a delicious free breakfast, members of the public are invited to meet Hayward firefighters and paramedics, take a station tour and learn about disaster preparedness programs, tips and strategies.
A fun zone for children will include a jumper, art activities and an interactive fire-drill challenge. Parking will be available, and no reservation is required.
The fire station improvements completed this year included energy-efficiency enhancements, accessibility upgrades and seismic strengthening to a level that will allow for immediate occupancy and operation of the stations following a 7.0 earthquake.
