My Voice, My Experience

My Voice, My Experience: The Black Family Experience in Hayward. In celebration of Black History Month, Black/African American teens ages 13 to 18 who live or attend school in Hayward are invited to submit a creative work that reflects their experiences.
Please read and review all guidelines prior to entry.
All entries are due by February 28, 2021, at 5pm.
 
Eligibility:
Must identify as Black/African American.
Must be between the ages of 13 and 18 at the time of submitting the entry.
Must live in, attend school in, or have a parent or guardian who works in Hayward.
Participants under the age of 18, must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter and to publish their entry and name online.
 
Guidelines:
Entries must be submitted via the online form by February 28 at 5pm.
Entries may include poetry, short essays, or visual art.
Short essays and poems must be 500 words or less.
Visual arts entries may include drawings, paintings, digital art, or any other two-dimensional art.
Entries must be submitted in PDF, JPEG, or PNG format.
No more than 2 entries per category per participant.
 
Prizes/Awards:
All eligible entries will be virtually displayed via the Hayward Public Library's social media platforms.
Winners will be selected in each of the 3 categories.
Winners will be notified by phone or email.
A participant may not win more than one prize in any category.
