What is "100 Books Before Graduation"? A reading challenge for grades 7 to 12! The goal is to read 100 different books by the time you graduate high school.
100 books?! But that's so many! It might sound like a lot, but it's doable if you set aside just a few minutes to read every day. It's okay if you don't reach100; the goal is just to read more.
Why should I do this? Reading can reduce stress, cure boredom and help you succeed in school. Plus you'll earn prizes!
Do I have to live in Hayward to join the challenge? No, it's open to all students in grades 7 - 12! But keep in mind that all prizes must be picked up in person at Hayward Public Library.
I'm already a Junior or Senior. Is it too late for me to join the challenge? You can join 100 Books Before Graduation any time during grades 7 - 12. If you start later, just consider it an extra challenge to reach 100 books!
What kind of books count?
Can I count books that I read for school? Yes, you can count books you read for school as well as books you read for fun.
Do I have to read certain books? No, you get to choose what you read! But we have some recommendations here.
I re-read a book. Can I count it twice? Each book can only be counted once.
Can I count a book that I read before I signed up? No, only books that you read after signing up may be counted.
I started a book but didn't like it and don't want to finish it. Can I still count it? As long as you gave it an honest try and read at least half of it, you can count the book.
What prizes will I get?
When & where do I get my prizes? Registration, progress, & milestone prizes may be picked up at the Downtown Library at any time. Finisher Prizes will be available at the end of the school year.
What if I don't finish 100 books? That's totally okay! Even if you don't reach 100, you'll still win prizes.
I finished 100 books. Can I do the program all over again? Great job! You're welcome to continue logging your books on Beanstack, but you can only earn the prizes one time.
