Overnight closure of I-880 ramp planned tonight as part of West Winton Avenue repaving project
The I-880 freeway ramps serving West Winton Avenue in Hayward will be closed overnight tonight as part of the repaving of West Winton between Southland Drive and Santa Clara Street.
Specifically, the repaving work is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Friday and again from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday. The I-880 ramps closure, however, is limited to overnight tonight.
Although one lane of West Winton will remain open in each direction throughout, traffic delays are expected during repaving activity.
The work is part of the City of Hayward’s annual pavement improvement project for Fiscal Year 2023. The Fiscal Year 2023 project is bringing $16 million of spot repairs, micro resurfacing, pavement grinding and overlay, curb-ramp upgrades and restriping, including bike lane and crosswalk enhancements, to more than 52 lane miles of roadway across 111 street segments.
Street segments are selected based on City evaluation of current pavement conditions, public and City Council input, grouping of streets by neighborhood for cost and schedule efficiency, and available funding. Funding comes from Alameda County Measure B and BB transportation sales tax revenue, gas tax revenue, state vehicle registration fees, other street system improvement funds, and the California Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
