The Hayward Police Department investigates all injury, fatal, and hit and run traffic collisions for the purpose of documentation, and prosecution.
Property damage collisions may be documented in a police report upon request.

Traffic Accident Reports
The Hayward police department maintains written records of all reported traffic collisions for public inspection and purchase. All vehicle collision reports are reviewed by a trained accident review officer for completeness and accuracy prior to being filed.
Traffic accident reports can be obtained by those involved in the accident either in person or by mail.
- In person: Requires the submission of a request form and payment of a $12 fee at the Hayward Police Department. Complex investigations may require additional fees. There is a 10 working-day processing time for each report. Office hours are 9 a.m-5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
- By mail: Requires a written request which should include the date, time, location, and report number, if known, and a $12 check or money order made payable to the Hayward Police Department. Complex investigations may require additional fees. Upon receipt of the request, there will be a 10 working-day processing time.
