Call for Student Artwork: City of Hayward’s Annual Poster & Writing Contest
The City of Hayward is accepting entries for its annual Earth Day Poster and Writing Contest, which invites Hayward students to create a poster or write a poem or essay about Earth Day. The contest gives students an opportunity to draw or write about their thoughts on water and energy conservation, renewable energy, active transportation, sustainable food, recycling and composting, and a litter-free environment. Submissions are due March 15, 2019.
Two winners for poster entries and two winners for poem/essay entries will be selected from each grade category. The grade categories are: K-1st Grade, 2nd-3rd Grade, 4th-5th Grade, 6th-8th Grade, and 9th-12th Grade. Entries will be judged on originality, clarity, and expression of theme by members of the Hayward Arts Council. In each category, first place winners will receive a $200 gift certificate and second place winners will receive a $150 gift certificate. Teachers of the winning students will also receive gift certificates.
To qualify, all entries must follow the Contest rules, which can be found at: www.hayward-ca.gov/your-environment/get-involved/earth-day-events/poster-and-writing-contest. Students who submit winning entries will be invited to attend a City Council meeting in April to receive their prize and a certificate of achievement from Mayor Barbara Halliday.
