Safe Routes for Seniors

Project Overview:

The City of Hayward's Safe Routes for Seniors (SR4S) Program is a collaboartive effort between the City and local senior housing facilities, senior centers, and community-based organizations. Through these partnerships, the City is working to identify areas in Hayward at which to focus accessibility and walkability improvements. The SR4S Program is funded by Alameda County Measure BB 1/2 Cent Sales Tax, which is administered by the Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC). The area currently being targeted for improvement in FY21 is Downtown Hayward. Additional areas in the City will be targeted for SR4S improvements in future years.

South Hayward — Latest Project Phase

Staff are working on improving intersections frequently used by seniors near Tennyson Road and in South Hayward. Updates will be posted as they become available.

Downtown Hayward — Completed Phase

In Summer 2019, City staff worked with local seniors to identify four intersections in Downtown Hayward at which to focus SR4S improvements. The City is currently working to design proposed improvements in each of these areas.
