The City of Hayward will host a public forum the evening of August 7 that has been organized by the advocacy group Climate Protection & Restoration Initiative to share information and gather public input and testimony about the importance of reducing the environmental impacts of greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate Protection & Restoration Initiative is a nonprofit advocacy organization that sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2022 for in its view not doing enough to get energy companies out of the fossil fuel business and failing to require them to clean up and reverse environmental and climate damage attributable to fossil fuel use in the United States.

Climate Protection & Restoration Initiative is holding the forum to share scientific information and gather input to be used in the course of its legal and political advocacy. The City of Hayward agreed to host the forum because confronting climate crisis and championing environmental justice have been identified by the City Council as policy priorities.

Among those scheduled to testify is Karina Garbesi, professor emerita and director of environmental studies at Cal State University East Bay in Hayward.
