Friends of the Hayward Library is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the programs, services, and resources of Hayward Public Library. Its mission is to provide funding for items and programs that the Library's City budget cannot cover, and help enrich the educational, cultural, and community experiences of all library users. Funds are raised primarily through book sales and donations. The original Friends of the Hayward Public Library was founded in 1982, and the group was revived in 2026 as Friends of the Hayward Library.

How You Can Help
Support the Bookstore
Your donation of books, CDs, and DVDs help the Friends raise money by selling new and gently used items at the Book Store. Please bring up to 2 bags or boxes of donations per day and drop them off at either the Downtown Library or the Weekes branch.
The Friends are currently seeking:
- DVDs and CDs
- Children's books, especially board books and early readers
- Manga and graphic novels
No textbooks, books on CD, or old encyclopedias or magazines, please.
Donate
Your tax-deductible donation to Friends of the Hayward Library will help fund children's programs, homework tutoring centers, special library events, and new books and computer technology to help make Hayward's library the very best it can be.
Checks may be made out to “Friends of the Hayward Library” and dropped off at any desk at either library branch or mailed to:
