Four Arrested and 26 cited at Hayward DUI Checkpoint

Four Arrested and 26 cited at Hayward DUI Checkpoint 

 

Hayward, Calif.- On June 28, 2024, the Hayward Police Department held a DUI/ Driver License checkpoint on W. Winton Ave. from 8 pm until 2 am. 556 vehicles and drivers were screened with 2 drivers being arrested for DUI, 1 driver arrested for vehicle theft, and 1 driver arrested on an active felony arrest warrant. 26 drivers were cited for being unlicensed or for driving with a suspended/ revoked license. 

 

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of DUI related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving and to increase public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads. The next DUI checkpoint will be held on August 2, 2024 

 

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
