Didn't find the book you're looking for in our catalog? Use Zip Books to have the item mailed directly to you for free, and return it to us when you're done.

What are Zip Books?  

You can use Zip Books to request items we don't own. It's free and shipped directly to you using Amazon. 

What are the requirements?

  • You must be at least 18 years old 
  • You must have a Hayward Public Library card in good standing (no current charges)
  • You may request up to 3 Zip Books at a time. Zip Books must be returned before you can request more

What can I request?

Eligible items must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Books, large print books, or audiobooks
  • Not owned by Hayward Public Library
  • Available through Amazon Prime
  • Print books must cost less than $50.00
  • Audiobooks on CD can cost up to $75.00

What can't I request?

Ineligible items include:
  • Out of print items
  • Not yet published items
  • Textbooks
  • Workbooks meant to be written in
  • Items published within the last year
  • Any item that doesn’t meet the Library’s Collection Development Policy

How to request a Zip Book

  1. Complete the online Zip Books request form or print the paper form and bring it to the library
  2. We'll review your request and send an email update within one week
  3. If your Zip Books request is approved, you'll receive the item in a package at your door. It may include a packing slip with a note saying ‘Zip Books’. If so, please keep the packing slip in the book until you return it to the library

How to return a Zip Book

  • Zip Books must be returned in-person to the library
  • Let us know that you're returning a Zip Book
  • Do not return Zip Books item in a book drop because you may not be correctly credited for returning the item
  • All Zip Books must be returned to the library within 28 days
  • Zip Books not returned to the library will be charged as a lost item to your library account
  • Zip Books may not be renewed
