Applications for appointment to City commissions being accepted until Aug. 2

The City of Hayward application period for appointment to City commissions in 2024 closes Aug. 2—with service on these City Council-appointed bodies now open to all City residents.

In November 2020, Hayward voters expanded the opportunity to serve through passage of ballot Measure OO. Measure OO amended the City Charter to eliminate wording that had restricted commission service to people registered or eligible to be registered to vote—a requirement that had the effect of making non-citizens ineligible.

Applications are being accepted for appointment to vacancies on the Library, Personnel and Planning commissions. This year, the City is not recruiting community members for the Community Services Commission and Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force.

Meetings of City Commissions and Task Forces are currently held in person at Hayward City Hall, 777 B Street, Hayward.

For more information—including a list of all Council-appointed bodies, terms of current members, updated eligibility and service requirements, and an application—visit the appointed bodies webpage on the City of Hayward website or contact the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@hayward-ca.gov or (510) 583-4400.
