The City of Hayward’s Police Department has a rich history of dedicated service to the community. This service extends to the Police Reserve Bureau. The Reserves have been in existence since the 1950’s and continue to be a vital and integral part of the Police Department. The Hayward Reserve Police Bureau is a volunteer organization, whose members supplement full time paid officers. The Reserve Bureau members conduct a variety of activities including assisting with large events, traffic control, serving arrest warrants, conducting random audits for compliance with sex registrants and supplementing daily activities that our regular sworn beat officers are engaged in everyday.

The Hayward Police Department is committed to delivering quality service to our community and our motto is to strive for excellence and accountability. This is evident by the character of people who comprise our Reserve Bureau.

Requirements to become a Reserve Officer:
To become a Reserve Officer, you will need to successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological evaluation. The successful Reserve applicant must pass a POST certified academy program, and the Hayward Police Department’s Field Training Program.
