Community meeting scheduled to help customers understand gas and electric bills
HAYWARD, Calif., March 20, 2019—The City of Hayward and East Bay Community Energy will hold a special community meeting Thursday, March 28, to help customers better understand their new Pacific Gas and Electric Co. utility bills.
Back-to-back one-hour programs will be held at Matt Jimenez Community Center, 28200 Ruus Road—in English from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and in Spanish from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Over the past year, electricity customers in Hayward and other Alameda County cities have been shifted onto power procured by nonprofit East Bay Community Energy (EBCE), rather than by for-profit PG&E.
The goal of EBCE and other agencies like it is to provide a cleaner, greener choice of electricity without higher costs and without sacrificing reliability.
Though priced equally to PG&E supply, EBCE electricity now powering homes, businesses and other facilities in Hayward comes from entirely carbon-free sources, such as wind and solar.
At the same time, PG&E billing statements used to reflect the change are causing customer confusion and making comparison shopping difficult.
Representatives from EBCE will use the March 28 community meeting to explain how to read the new bill and answer questions. To learn more about EBCE online, go to https://ebce.org/.
