Departments & Divisions
Our municipal organization consists of 13 separate departments, which includes public safety departments such as police and fire. Together, under the guidance of accomplished department directors and with the support and mandate of the City Council, we do the City's work.
City Council
The Mayor and six Council members represent the residents of Hayward, review public policy, and adopt policies responsive to the community. The City Council meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, 2nd Floor of 777 B Street, Hayward, CA 94541.
Appointed /bodies
Participate in Hayward's government processes. Commissions & Task Forces are established for the purpose of advising the City Council and providing ongoing input into policies and issues affecting the future of the City of Hayward.
Council Standing Committees
The Hayward City Council has six standing committees that explore new policies and programs, and develop recommendations to present to the full City Council.
Codes/Regulations

Documents/Reports
From the City's annual operating budget to the City Charter, and from the Capital Improvement Program to our master fee schedule, a number of key documents underpin the City's decision making process and tell a story about where we've been, where we are and where we're going.
Elections
The City Clerk's Office manages the deadlines, requirements and procedures related to local elections. The City's next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
