On June 2, 2026, California will hold a Direct Primary Election in which voters will choose candidates for federal and state offices.

Voter Registration

Register to vote by May 18, 2026, to receive a ballot in the mail.  Voters can still participate in the election using same day voter registration at a Vote Center or the Registrar of Voters office until 8:00 pm on Election Day.

Special Vacancy Election - June 16, 2026

A special election to fill the seat representing California's 14th Congressional District in the U.S. House will be held on June 16, 2026.

Special Election Information

The City Council is composed of one mayor elected at-large and six council members elected by district. On November 3, 2026, the seat of Mayor and two Council Member seats, one for Council District 1 and one for Council District 6, will be up for election. The Mayor and Council Member seats are each for four-year terms. To qualify, candidates must be registered voters in the City of Hayward.  Under the district-based system, candidates live in the district they seek to represent and are elected by voters who live in the same district.
