(Interim) Fire Chief Vollmer was hired as a Firefighter with the City of Hayward in 1999. During 2006, he was promoted to Captain. In 2012 and 2015, Chief Vollmer was further promoted to the positions of Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief (Special Operations), respectively. He attained the position of (Interim) Fire Chief in 2024. During his lengthy tenure with the City, Chief Vollmer has been heavily involved with Firefighters Local 1909. He was elected president in 2008 and served in that capacity for 4 years. During this time, he was heavily involved in negotiating 2 labor contracts with the City. In addition to serving as president, Chief Vollmer spent 6 years as an executive board member. (Interim) Fire Chief Vollmer is most proud about his time spent in the Training Division managing 3 recruit academies and introducing local youth to Firefighting via the Eden Area ROP program.
