Old Main Library Entrance

The City of Hayward will close permanently its old Main Library at the end of business on Saturday, Sept. 1, to begin the transition into and prepare to open its new 21st Century Library and Community Learning Center.

The grand opening of the new Main Library is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 27, starting with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by an all-day community celebration including tours and other activities and entertainment for all ages.

During the eight-week Main Library closure, the Weekes Branch Library, 27300 Patrick Ave., will remain open for business as usual.

Also, during the closure period, library book and materials check-out periods will be extended, and late-fine accruals will be suspended.  Throughout the closure, library materials can continue to be returned in the book boxes located outside the Old Main Library on Watkins Street between C and D Streets.
