Lane closure on northbound Mission Boulevard in South Hayward for roadway rehabilitation and repaving
HAYWARD, Calif., July 26, 2019—Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane along a 1.5-mile stretch of Mission Boulevard from the Hayward-Union City border at Blanche Street to the intersection of Industrial/Alquire Parkway for roadway rehabilitation and repaving.
The lane reduction will occur 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 29, to Thursday, Aug. 1, and Monday, Aug. 5, to Friday, Aug. 9, and is part of Phase 2 of the City of Hayward Mission Boulevard Improvements Project. Two lanes will open to traffic at the end of each day.
Phase 1 of the Mission Boulevard improvements, from Industrial Parkway to A Street, was completed in 2014. Phase 3, from A Street to the north City limit at Rose Street, is currently in the design phase. Phase 2 construction started in March 2018 and is anticipated to be completed by early 2020.
In addition to roadway rehabilitation and repaving, the project consists of:
- Under-grounding of overhead utility wires;
- Construction of new sidewalks and curb ramps, bike lanes with buffer planter islands, and median island with landscaping;
- Planting of new trees;
- Installation of LED streetlights, new metal fencing on the westside of Mission adjacent to existing wood fencing, and gateway monuments at Blanche, Fairway and Corrine streets; and
- Modification of existing traffic signals and installation of new traffic signals.
Project funding includes revenue from the sale of land once planned for construction of a State Route 238 bypass freeway and from the Alameda County voter-approved Measure BB transportation sales tax.
