More than 150 affordable housing units started coming online in 2024
Builders and property managers began accepting purchase and lease applications on more than 150 new below-market-rate (BMR) homes at five new Hayward housing developments in 2024.
In January 2024, the application period opened on seven new income-restricted, BMR townhomes for sale at La Playa Place, a new mixed-income development by D.R. Horton near Southland Mall.
Mission Paradise, by affordable housing developer EAH Housing, began accepting applications in May from low-income seniors 62 years of age and older on 76 new apartments at 28000 Mission Boulevard. Fifteen of the units were set aside for seniors with severe mental illness experiencing homelessness and will be supported by on-site services tailored to their needs.
In June, Pimentel Place, a new affordable residence also by EAH Housing, began accepting lease applications from low-income families on 57 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with energy-efficient appliances and amenities that include on-site laundry, bicycle parking, a children’s play area and indoor and outdoor community spaces at 22648 Second Street. Fifteen of the units were set aside for people experiencing homelessness and will include support services.
Also in June, Fusion, by Homes Built for America, began accepting purchase applications on six income-restricted, three-bedroom BMR townhomes at a mixed-income project of 55 units nearing completion at 27177 Mission Boulevard near Moreau Catholic High School.
Lastly, in September, Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley began accepting applications on 10 income-restricted, BMR townhomes under construction at a development called Sequoia Grove in Hayward’s Burbank neighborhood.
All five projects received development funding from the City of Hayward or have been developed pursuant to the City’s inclusionary housing ordinance.
