Throw out large items for free with Waste Management’s “Bulky Item Pickup” service
It’s easier than you might think to get rid of those large household items that just don’t spark joy anymore. Waste Management, the City’s waste hauler, will pick up old furniture, appliances, televisions, and more -- right from your curb, at no additional charge.
Two free "Bulky Item Pickups" per calendar year are provided by Waste Management. Taking advantage of the service is as simple as calling (510) 537-5500 and scheduling an appointment. Hayward residents can also opt to receive one self-haul coupon per year. The coupon entitles its holder to free disposal of up to two cubic yards of material at the Davis Street Transfer Station in San Leandro.
Eligible items:
Waste Management will accept up to two cubic yards of material from your curbside, including bagged garbage, over-sized branches, pruned vegetation tied into bundles up to four-feet long, and up to four inches in diameter; up to three appliances or other scrap metal items; up to two TVs, computers, monitors or printers; up to four passenger car tires; and up to two mattresses, without any items stacked on top. Appliances cannot be leaking oil or other hazardous materials, must be placed upright, and doors and lids should be secured or removed for safety.
Not eligible items:
Waste Management will not accept hazardous materials, including paint, motor oil, solvents, cleaners, pesticides or car batteries; items over 75 pounds (except furniture and appliances); medical waste; construction or demolition debris; rocks, bricks, dirt or concrete. Hayward residents in single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, and four-plexes can schedule a bulky item pickup by calling (510) 537-5500. Residents in multi-family properties can schedule a bulky item pickup through their property manager.
