Certification of election results, swearing-in of returning Council members tonight at City Hall
December 10, 2024
The Hayward City Council will certify the results of the November 2024 municipal election and returning Councilmembers Angela Andrews, Ray Bonilla Jr., Francisco Zermeño and Dan Goldstein will take the oath of office as they are sworn-in to new four-year terms this evening at Hayward City Hall.
The special ceremonial meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a public reception. The meeting will be broadcast and streamed live over cable TV channel KHRT 15 and the City’s YouTube channel—both reachable from the home page of the City’s website, www.hayward-ca.gov.
In the Nov. 5 municipal election, Councilmembers Andrews, Bonilla Jr., Zermeño and Goldstein were the top four vote-getters among seven candidates in the race for four Council seats.
The election marks the last time Council members other than the City’s mayor will be elected through at-large, citywide races, as Hayward transitions to a system of geographic district-based elections for Council starting in 2026.
Also on Nov. 5, Hayward voters overwhelmingly passed a 20-year extension of the City’s half-cent sales tax, Hayward Measure K1, beyond its 2034 sunset date with 83 percent voting in favor of the extension. Revenue from the sales tax funds core public safety and maintenance services and City facility, infrastructure and road improvements.
