Hayward businesses win innovation awards
Hayward businesses claimed top honors in two of eight categories in the sixth-annual East Bay Economic Development Alliance East Bay Innovation Awards competition.
Therm-x, of Hayward, won in the Advanced Manufacturing category. Therm-x’s custom solutions help manufacturers, such as microchip-makers Applied Materials and Intel, tackle temperature-control challenges to build smaller, faster products. The company also serves customers in the alternative energy, aerospace, automotive and food industries.
RefleXion Medical, of Hayward, won in Life Sciences. RefleXion Medical’s technology combines PET scan cancer imaging and radiation therapy to identify the most active parts of tumors and eradicate them immediately with radiation, rather than making patients wait for full PET scan images to be formed. Tumors signal their positions to the company’s machines, allowing for more precise treatment that can lead to better results with less and fewer side-effects.
All of the Innovation Award winners were announced and celebrated at an awards ceremony Friday, March 29, at the historic Fox Theatre in Oakland.
Over 100 nominations for awards were received in August 2017 with 16 finalists selected in eight categories by subject-matter experts.
