Annual Hayward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Event goes virtual

January 14, 2021

HAYWARD, Calif., Jan. 14, 2021—Hayward community leaders, the Hayward South Alameda County NAACP, Chabot College, Hayward Unified School District and the City of Hayward invite Hayward residents to enjoy a special video tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the evening of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The annual in-person Hayward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Event held each year in the evening of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday at Reed L. Buffington Visual & Performing Art Center has been cancelled for 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In its place, the Birthday Celebration Event Committee assembled a compilation of musical and spoken word performances, conversations and other contributions from students, a past event keynote speaker and community leaders to celebrate the great civil rights leader and consider his legacy amid the extraordinary events of the past year.

The video tribute will be broadcast on Comcast cable TV channel 15 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, and will also be available on the City of Hayward YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/cityofhayward.
