Explosions in Hayward hills to signal start of 2018 Bay Area Military Classic at TPC Stonebrae Country Club
Firing of howitzer canons to provide ‘shotgun start’ of golf tournament to support military members and families
HAYWARD, Calif., June 25, 2018—The City of Hayward is providing public notice of the planned firing of howitzer guns in the Hayward hills at 11 a.m. today to signal the start of the Bay Area Military Classic golf tournament at TPC Stonebrae Country Club.
The explosion of the firing of the howitzers canons is expected to be loud and be heard far and wide—and could prove startling to people in the vicinity of Stonebrae. The U.S. Army will be using blank charges. No live ammunition is being used.
The Bay Area Military Classic is a benefit that provides support and resources for Bay Area military members, past and present, and their families.
The 2018 tournament is sponsored by The Cooper Companies, a medical device and products producer based in Pleasanton, Alameda County.
