Hayward is your destination for free family fun this summer

The summer season kicks off this month with City of Hayward-supported street parties, community festivals and more.

On June 20, the Third Thursday Downtown Street Party series opens its 20th year with bands, the first of three summer car shows, street entertainers, food and family fun from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on B Street between Foothill Boulevard and Watkins Street.

Summer Movies in the Plaza outside Hayward City Hall returns June 28 with a showing of Hotel Transylvania 3, Summer Vacation, sponsored by Hayward Area Recreation District. Bring your blankets, picnic dinner, low-back lawn chairs and flashlight. Fun activities for the whole family start at 5 p.m. The movie will begin after dark at 8:15 p.m.

Then, on June 29, get a head start on Independence Day celebration at the 6th Annual Tennyson All America Festival at Mount Eden Mansion, 2451 W. Tennyson Road. Enjoy music, food, refreshments, bike rodeo, activities for children, a car show, and learn about Hayward community resources. There will be free bike repairs, backpacks and bike helmets to the first 100 attendees.
