Public invited to help shape future of Hayward downtown in series of design workshops
Design charrette to help guide development of Downtown Specific Plan
HAYWARD, Calif., March 9, 2017—City Planning officials today announced and invited public participation in a series of interactive design workshops and presentations to help shape development, land-use designations, and transportation and infrastructure improvements for downtown Hayward.
The five-day, public charrette is intended to allow Hayward residents, businesses and the community at large to participate directly in key planning decisions that go into creating a vision for the future of downtown.
“We want Hayward community members to have a chance to roll up their sleeves with our city planners and consultants, and come away feeling they have contributed and been heard,” said City Manager Kelly McAdoo.
The series of workshops and presentations will culminate in a closing presentation and inform a new Specific Plan for the downtown area, which generally is centered at B and Main streets, and straddles Foothill Boulevard to northeast and the elevated BART railway to southwest.
