Homicide Investigation

March 24, 2020

HAYWARD, Calif.,— On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at about 1130 PM, our officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in the 30000 Block of Vanderbilt Street.  Upon arrival, we found a man and a woman suffering from stab wound(s).  The man was provided medical attention at the scene, however, was pronounced deceased.  The woman was transported to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries and is in stable condition.

The victim was identified as 57-year-old Michael McCormack out of Hayward.  The victim’s son, 22-year-old William East-McCormack was arrested a short time after the homicide occurred.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged William with the murder of his father, attempted murder of his mother and criminal threats towards his half-sister.  William is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
