HAYWARD, Calif., May 12, 2020—The Hayward Community Relief Fund will provide by lottery $500 grants to Hayward residents who have lost income due to COVID-19 and who are ineligible for state unemployment insurance and federal relief programs.

The new Hayward Family Support Grants are intended to support the City’s most economically vulnerable during the public health emergency and are part of an expanding set of City efforts to sustain and keep safe local residents and businesses through the crisis.

The Hayward Family Support Grants program is being administered by La Familia of Hayward, a nonprofit mental health and community services organization.  La Familia will begin accepting online applications for the grants next week, starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19.

The program has enough funding to provide up to 650 grants of $500 a piece to eligible Hayward families and individuals.  The grants will be distributed through a lottery system with funds provided by check or a prepaid card.

Applications in English, Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese and Vietnamese will be available online at www.lafamiliacounseling.org starting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 19.  Help for people unable to access the application and additional support will be available by calling La Familia at (510) 459-1277.

The application period is scheduled to close June 2 or once a total of 1,200 applications have been received.  All information shared on applications will be kept confidential.

Applications and grants are limited to one per household to expand access to the assistance.

Eligible applicants who do not receive a grant through the lottery will be put on a waiting list for possible future rounds depending on funding.
