City of Hayward gears up for 33rd Annual Citywide Cleanup

HAYWARD - If you are itching to do some serious spring cleaning you're in luck. The Annual Citywide Cleanup is right around the corner and community members all over Hayward are gearing up to "spring" into action and do their part to create and maintain a cleaner and greener Hayward.

The event, which is in its 33rd year, will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Weekes Park in South Hayward. In past years, the cleanup has drawn crowds of up to 300 volunteers, organizers are expecting even larger crowds this year by partnering with the Adopt-a-Block program and including a Community Engagement Fair. The cleanup has become more than just a concentrated assault against litter and trash, it has turned into a valued community-building occasion that has residents working toward a shared goal, a better Hayward.

Volunteers will gather in Weekes Park at 8:00 a.m. for registration and clean-up supplies before deploying to destinations across the City to pick up trash and litter. Afterwards, all volunteers are invited back to Weekes Park for music, a BBQ lunch, and Thank You gifts from the the City of Hayward. Volunteers and community members are also encouraged to attend the Community Engagement Fair to learn about the many other volunteer opportunities throughout the City as well as how they can serve on a City board, commission, or task force.
