Public swearing-in of Ana Alvarez as Hayward City Manager—6 p.m. Thursday
The City of Hayward will hold a public swearing-in of Dr. Ana Alvarez as Hayward city manager followed by a public reception starting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Hayward City Hall rotunda.
Alvarez, whose City Council appointment as Hayward’s 14th city manager was announced on Dec. 17, is a 30-year public sector professional who most recently served as Deputy General Manager of the East Bay Regional Park District.
As city manager, Alvarez will serve as the City’s chief executive officer with primary responsibility for overall administration of Hayward’s 900-employee municipal government, oversight of the City’s departmental leadership and implementation of City Council priorities, policy direction and legislation.
Alvarez will succeed Kelly McAdoo, who left the City of Hayward in May to become City Administrator for the City of Santa Barbara.
Earlier in her career, Alvarez served as deputy director of parks and open space for the City and County of San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, director of the City of Santa Fe Springs Community Services Department, director of the City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Department, manager of the City of Burbank Cultural Arts Program and teen programs supervisor for the City of Santa Barbara.
Alvarez holds a Doctor of Policy, Planning and Development degree from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Northridge. She was born in Mexico City and is bicultural and bilingual.
