Urban Forest
Did you know Hayward has been a Certified Tree City for 30 years? Learn about the many benefits of urban trees and what the City is doing to keep them healthy.
Trees have many benefits in an urban environment, including providing shade that reduces our energy needs, reducing air and noise pollution, and stabilizing soil to decrease runoff and erosion. Trees also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by absorbing the emissions from the air.
Annual Arbor Day Celebration
The City of Hayward, as a cooperative effort with the Hayward Unified School District and the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, celebrates Arbor Day each year. Arbor Day has been held in Hayward since 1985. Since 1989, the celebrations have been held at a Hayward school and a Hayward park. Each year one school is chosen to host the celebration, including information booths, tree plantings at the school, and presentation of a Tree City Award.
