Public parking in City Hall basement to end as security measure

Public access to the City Hall basement parking garage will end on Jan. 1 as part of a set of building-security enhancements.

The 48-space basement garage is primarily occupied by city employees during the weekday but also has been publicly accessible mornings and afternoons, and when evening government meetings and events are scheduled.

Starting Jan. 1, the City Hall basement garage will be closed with a security gate 24 hours a day, seven days a week—and users will be required to have a City-issued employee badge or security code to enter.

At the same time, short-term public parking spaces will be added adjacent to City Hall along the south curb of B Street.

Also, the Watkins Street garage across from City Hall is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and contains 287 public parking spaces on the first and second floors.
