East Bay Induction Cooktop Lending Program Returns
The City of Hayward is excited to partner with Acterra to bring back the East Bay Induction Cooktop Lending program. This program allows East Bay residents to reserve and borrow an induction cooktop to try out at home. Those who sign up can borrow induction cooktop kits for up to 3 weeks at no cost. Residents can pick up the induction cooktop kits at six different partner locations, including Hayward City Hall.
Induction cooktops are electric cooking stoves that work differently from coil or resistance electric stoves. Induction cooktops operate by heating the pan directly by generating heat from pushing electricity across a magnetic field. This allows you to heat the pan to an exact temperature quickly. Other benefits include being:
- Easy to clean - the cooktop itself doesn’t get hot enough to burn food.
- Safer than other cooktops – the cooktop does not emit harmful gasses like nitrogen oxides or carbon monoxide that can be emitted by gas stoves.
- Energy efficient – energy used to power the cooktop goes directly into heating the cookware saving you time and money.
The kits include a portable induction cooktop, a compatible pan, recipes, and instructions making it easy for participants to explore this sustainable cooking method.
