New housing opens at South Hayward BART
Residents, developers, and local, state and federal officials celebrated the grand opening last month of an award-winning, multi-generational and economically diverse transit-oriented community of apartment homes at South Hayward BART station.
Named a San Francisco Business Times 2017 Real Deal of the Year, non-profit affordable housing developer Eden Housing of Hayward and for-profit housing developer AMCAL Equities of Agora Hills, Calif., teamed up to transform a BART satellite parking lot and the former site of the Perry & Key automotive shop into Alta Mira Senior and Family Apartments and Cadence Place.
Alta Mira is made up of two five-story buildings—one containing 86 apartments for families and the other 64 apartments for seniors. The buildings share a common courtyard and are reserved for households earning 30 to 50 percent of Alameda County median income. The development includes a playground, community gardens, gyms, computer centers, community rooms and picnic tables on the shared courtyard. Eden received 4,500 applications and inquiries from prospective tenants seeking one of the 150 units.
Cadence is a Class A market-rate development consisting of 206 one and two-bedroom apartments featuring a fitness center and yoga room, resident lounge, pool and spa deck, clubhouse, business center, pet spa, self-service bike parking and repair, and package concierge service.
