Hayward Earth Day poster and writing contest winners recognized by City Council
HAYWARD, Calif., May 3, 2018—The Hayward City Council recognized winners of the 2018 City of Hayward Earth Day Poster and Writing Contest during a special ceremony in the Council chambers last month.
The Earth Day Poster and Writing Contest provides Hayward students with an opportunity to convey through images and describe through words their ideas about water and energy conservation, renewable energy, recycling, composting and related environmental topics.
The posters, poems and essays were judged by members of the Hayward Arts Council, which selected winning entries based on originality, clarity and creative expression of the theme.
This year, there were 266 entries from 15 Hayward schools. One student winners’ father mentioned that his family moved to the United States just two years prior. “She didn’t know any English, and look at her now,” he said, proudly.
