Heavy rain is forecast to reach Hayward by Friday, and the City of Hayward is making free sandbags available to help local residents and businesses prepare.

During inclement weather, the sandbags are located in front of the Hayward Animal Shelter at 16 Barnes Court. Up to six sandbags are available to Hayward households and 12 sandbags for Hayward businesses prior to and during rainstorms.

A self-service sandbag filling station also is available if the supply of pre-filled bags runs out.

Loading assistance also is available upon request during business hours. Call (510) 881-7745 during normal business hours (Mon. through Fri., 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) to schedule a pick-up. For after-hours assistance, please call the non-emergency Hayward Police line at (510) 293-7272.

The sandbags are free of charge. Bring your ID, as verification that you are Hayward resident or represent a Hayward business may be required.

Unincorporated areas of Hayward including Fairview, Cherryland, and nearby areas including Castro Valley and San Lorenzo, fall under Alameda County jurisdiction.  Please visit the Alameda County Public Works Agency page here for county services and updates.
