Save energy and money with these efficiency programs

November 24, 2020

East Bay Community Energy (EBCE), Hayward’s local electricity provider, has teamed up with OhmConnect and Rising Sun to offer two energy efficiency programs in an effort to help residents reduce their electricity consumption and decrease their bills.

OhmConnect - Through the OhmConnect platform, all EBCE and PG&E customers can enroll and receive money back when they reduce their energy usage. Participants earn one cent per point, and points are earned when a participant uses less energy than forecasted by their utility in a given time period. Additionally, certain income-qualifying customers may also receive a free smart plug device (a plug-in device for your outlet that enables any hooked-up appliance to be managed remotely). Those who install this device and connect it to their OhmConnect account will also receive a $10 bill credit from EBCE. Customers can enroll for the OhmConnect program here.

Rising Sun - Through the Rising Sun program, all Hayward residents can sign up for a free virtual energy assessment of their home, after which they will be mailed a free kit including easy-to-install energy saving devices like light bulbs and showerheads. Certain income-qualifying customers may also be sent a free smart thermostat and smart plug. Hayward residents can learn more and sign up on the Rising Sun website at https://risingsunopp.org/programs/ghc/

With questions about the OhmConnect or Rising Sun programs, please visit their respective websites or contact EBCE at local-programs@ebce.org

Those looking for more ways cut their bills and carbon footprint can check out the Bay Area Regional Energy Network’s (BayREN) virtual workshop, taking place Dec. 9 and 13: "Local Government Programs to Improve Comfort, Health and Save Energy." Attendees will learn about local government programs that provide free energy assistance and local rebates of up to $5,000. More information can be found at www.EastBayHomeUpgrade.eventbrite.com
