Another Successful Compost Giveaway

October 23, 2018

Hayward Maintenance Services Staff handing out compost

More than 800 Hayward residents woke up bright and early this past Saturday morning to pick up their four free bags of compost during the City of Hayward’s Fall 2018 Compost Giveaway Event.

Hosted in the Tennyson High School parking lot, the event saw its highest attendance yet with nearly 3,200 bags provided to approximately 793 local households.

The biannual Giveaway is hosted by the City’s Utilities & Environmental Services Department in collaboration with the Maintenance Services Department and Waste Management (WM) of Alameda County.

The compost is created using food scraps and yard clippings from Hayward homes.  Every one-cubic-foot bag of WM EarthCare Homegrown Compost is completely local, made from 100-percent recycled, Bay Area-sourced yard trimmings, food scraps, and clean lumber debris.

The next Compost Giveaway will be hosted during the Spring of 2019. Stay tuned for your next chance to pick up some locally-sourced compost.
