Steph is Coming
Two-time NBA champion and two-time league MVP Stephan Curry just inked a record-setting five-year, $201 million contract to extend his stay with the Golden State Warriors. One of his next moves comes in Hayward when he tees off at the Ellie Mae Classic, a Web.com Tour golf event Aug. 3-6, hosted by TPC Stonebrae.
An avid golfer, Curry carries a 2.0 handicap index and is quite accustomed to competing against other celebrity athletes and in low-key PGA Tour pro-ams, reports the San Francisco Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick, who broke the news of the star guard’s participation in the Ellie Mae Classic.
The tournament is played annually at TPC Stonebrae, with its breathtaking, panoramic views of the Bay Area. It benefits the Warriors Community Foundation, and will pit Curry against serious Web.com Tour professionals who are a step away from the big leagues of the PGA Tour. Last year, Warriors forward Andre Iguodala had the honors of playing in the tournament.
“I am looking forward to hopefully not embarrassing, but mostly having a lot of fun and hopefully raising a lot of money for the foundation,” Curry said, speaking in a video message released by the Warriors to promote the event.
As he spoke into the camera, the white lettering printed on the black cap atop his head read, “I CAN DO ALL THINGS.”
