Legal Rights Workshops for Immigrants sponsored by City of Hayward

HAYWARD, Calif., Sept. 14, 2017—The City of Hayward announced today it is sponsoring two upcoming legal rights workshops tailored to immigrant residents who may be affected by or have questions about evolving immigration-related policies and legislation.

The two Know Your Rights workshop sessions are scheduled to be delivered by the Alameda County Immigration Legal and Education Partnership in Spanish from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at La Familia Family Resource Center, 22366 Fuller Ave, Hayward, and in English from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Hayward Main Library, 835 C Street, Hayward.

The workshops are intended to provide information about legal rights and resources available to immigrants regardless of their immigration or refugee status.

Topics and information may include and will be presented in the context of:

• The Trump administration announcement last week that it will terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on March 5, 2018.
• Recent legal and legislative action by the California attorney general and state Legislature to challenge the termination of DACA and fund new legal and educational assistance for affected immigrants.
• New and proposed “sanctuary” policies limiting state and local involvement with U.S. immigration agents engaged in the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
