South Hayward senior condos
The newest proposed addition to the Mission Boulevard corridor comes before the Hayward City Council tonight—a 200-unit condominium community for buyers 55 years of age and older.
Called Mission Seniors, the project, at 29308 Mission Boulevard, calls for three four-story buildings containing one- to three-bedroom condos on the east side of Mission, plus three single-family detached homes to be built on an adjacent, hillside parcel on Overhill Drive.
Mission Seniors would replace vacant and under-utilized buildings and an industrial storage area that have been the source of public nuisance complaints. The project would generate $2.7 million in fees for parkland and affordable housing development.
The community is designed for independent living. Each condo would have a kitchen, laundry facilities and private open space, either a private balcony or deck terrace that faces landscaped gardens, surrounding neighborhoods or the natural hillside.
The development is intended to appeal to older residents with active or passive lifestyles. Planned amenities include an outdoor pool and sundeck, outdoor and central indoor dining areas, a pickle ball court, vegetable and terraced gardens, a library and reading room, a game
room, auditorium, hair salon, medical consultation room, fitness center, dog-washing and bike-repair stations, and close proximity to the South Hayward BART station.
