Community presentation on cleaner power options through East Bay Community Energy
Attendees also will have opportunity to learn about how to save money through the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project
HAYWARD, Calif., Nov. 19, 2018—Hayward-area residents are invited to attend a presentation on how Hayward and other East Bay communities are moving off carbon-based sources of electricity and ways to save money on clean vehicles in California.
The community presentation led by East Bay Community Energy and including representatives for the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project will be hosted by the City of Hayward from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in Room 2A at Hayward City Hall, 777 B Street.
Established in December 2016, nonprofit East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) procures electrical power on behalf of residential and commercial electricity customers in its member cities and delivers that energy through Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s distribution network.
Starting this month, residential electricity customers in Hayward and elsewhere are being converted onto EBCE-supplied power unless they choose to opt-out and remain on PG&E sources. Commercial electricity customers were converted earlier this year.
No matter whether electricity customers draw on power supplied by EBCE or PG&E, customer-service and billing functions continue to be handled by and remain the responsibility of PG&E.
Nonprofit local aggregation networks such as EBCE are formed by local communities to create electricity supply options that are less reliant on carbon-based fuels and other non-renewable sources and that can be provided to customers at competitive or lower rates.
EBCE is made up of the County of Alameda and the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro and Union City.
At the Nov. 29 community meeting in Hayward, electricity customers can learn about electricity supply products offered by EBCE and how they compare in terms of price and environmental sustainability. They also can learn about rebates available on the purchase or lease of clean vehicles in California.
Community members considering attending the event are encouraged to register online at https://tinyurl.com/ebce-hayward.
