EBCE to Host “Understanding Your Bill” Q&A at Snappy’s Cafe in Hayward
Hayward-area residents and business representatives are encouraged to stop by Snappy’s Cafe on Thursday, January 24, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., for individual question and answer opportunities with an East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) staff member. Those who attend will have the opportunity to learn more about how Hayward is moving off carbon-based sources of electricity, as well as address any questions they may have about their electricity bills.
EBCE procures electrical power on behalf of electricity customers in its member cities and delivers that energy through Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) distribution network. It was formed by the County of Alameda and 11 of its cities, including Albany, Berkeley, Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro, and Union City. Nonprofit community aggregation networks such as EBCE are formed by local communities to create electricity supply options that are both less reliant on carbon-based fuels and can be provided to customers at competitive or lower rates.
In November 2018, residential electricity customers in Hayward and elsewhere began to be converted onto EBCE-supplied power unless they chose to opt-out and remain on PG&E sources. Commercial electricity customers were converted in June 2018. No matter whether electricity customers draw on power supplied by EBCE or PG&E, billing, electricity-delivery and customer-service functions continue to be handled by and remain the responsibility of PG&E.
