HAYWARD, Calif., June 21, 2019 – The City Council presented Hayward High School senior Maile Annunziato with a special Certificate of Commendation for her outstanding performance in the California State SkillsUSA Competition.

Annunziato, a first responder student in the Eden Area Regional Occupational Program (ROP), competed against highly skilled individuals from across the state to earn a gold medal in First Aid and CPR.

“Her hard work and dedication to training, both in the classroom and at the Hayward Fire Department's Drill Grounds, is an inspiration to her instructors and peers,” said Eric Vollmer, Deputy Chief of the Hayward Fire Department.

“Maile’s work ethic and selfless spirit are exactly the kind of skills we look for in future first responders,” Vollmer added.

Next month, she will be headed to Louisville, Kentucky, to represent the State of California at the National SkillsUSA Competition.
