Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
The City receives funds annually from U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to award to organizations serving lower income Hayward residents in housing and community development. To be eligible for Community Development Block Grants organizations must be:
- Nonprofit or governmental
- serve low income Hayward residents
- submit projects for funding that assist in one or more CDBG priority areas.
Grants are awarded using a competitive process. Organizations usually submit proposals in December. Proposals are reviewed December through March by both staff and the Community Services Commission, and funds are awarded by City Council in April. Funded grant activities begin on July 1st.
