In-person Hayward City Council meetings to resume with COVID-19 vaccination requirement to attend
HAYWARD, Calif., Sept. 24, 2021—Hayward will resume in-person City Council meetings beginning Tuesday, Sept. 28, while continuing to offer members of the public, city staff and Council members the ability to attend and participate remotely by using the Zoom webinar platform.
The new hybrid-style meetings will take place in the City Council chambers at City Hall, and proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 will be required to attend in person. Proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test result will not be accepted as an alternative to COVID-19 vaccination for admission to the chambers.
Additionally, attendance in the chambers will be limited to allow for adequate physical distancing as a further precaution against coronavirus transmission. And everyone will be required to wear a mask or face covering while inside the chambers or anywhere in City Hall.
Council meetings will continue to be broadcast and streamed live over KHRT channel 15 and the City’s YouTube channel, and overflow seating will be provided at City Hall for watching the proceedings.
In-person meetings of the Hayward Planning Commission—with the virtual attendance and participation option—are expected to begin in October.
All other Council-appointed bodies and Council committees and task forces will continue meeting virtually for the foreseeable future.
As documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination, the City will accept a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccination card (or a copy or photograph thereof) with a picture ID, a State of California-issued digital COVID-19 vaccination record, or similar documentation issued by another state, local or foreign governmental jurisdiction.
